SEO (Search Engine Optimisation)
SEO is critical to the success of your website on Google and other search engines. There are two types of SEO one is great! (White hat SEO) and the other is a big nail in the coffin for your site (Black Hat SEO).
Although we provide SEO services in Ireland, I feel that these few tips will give you a great start if you want to go the DIY route.
#1. Keyword Rich Domain
If your starting out and your thinking pinkish.ie sounds like a great name? You wouldn’t be wrong, it dose sound like a great domain name. But what dose PinkFish.ie do? Well you can’t tell from the domain name and you would need plenty of advertising euros to let your target market know. Let’s say for example you are a t-shirt company and your brand is PinkFish, then you could try introduce T-shirts into the domain name, like PinkFishTshirts.ie
#2 SEO Friendly Design using a CMS
Using a CMS (Content Management System) to build your site is the quickest and easiest way to get online, not only is it fast but inherently CMS platforms are great for SEO. My personal favorites are WordPress and Joomla! They both have unique aspects to them but at the end of the day you get the same great results. If you use WordPress install Yoast SEO for free and it will force you to create great Search Engine Friendly content that will guarantee you more traffic.
#3 Get an Irish IP Address
If your targeting the Irish market then nothing says we’re Irish like a .ie domain name, this is great for people and search engines alike to trust that you are an Irish company. Having a .ie is not all that Google looks at, they have an algorithm that takes your IP address into account when indexing your site. My advice is to choose an Irish hosting company like Webhost.ie.
#4 Use Search Engine Friendly URLs
SEF (Search Engine Friendly) URLs are the only way to go! What this means is that the bit that comes after your domain name e.g.
www.domain.ie/this-bit-here
is clearly readable to a human and describes what the page is about. Let’s take a real example, if you are an electrician then you will have services like electrical shower installations? So when building your page you should write the link something like this
www.electicaljim.ie/electrical-shower-installation
Using this and great content will booth your site to the first page on Google when done right.
#5 Write a Blog
Having a blog is not just for hipsters to write about interesting food the had or their adventures of the day! A blog is a tool for you to use, to promote you and your business as the information source for all things related to your product or services. Believe it or not people trust other people that know what their talking about, that’s a secret so keep it to yourself!
